In mid-2020, just after the peak of COVID-19 and the major lockdown, Robin and I began discussing a new project together. I had only created two series’ prior, but this one was going to be different. For the previous series,’ Veiled and Persona, I collaborated with multiple models—each series ultimately featuring around ten different people. However, due to pandemic restrictions and the challenge of only having one opportunity to shoot with each model, I decided to change the format and work exclusively with one person for an entire series. This shift allowed me to build a deeper relationship with Robin and approach the project from a more focused and intimate perspective. It ended up shifting my entire perspective about creating.
There were times when we met to shoot, but the weather didn’t cooperate or the location didn’t feel right, so we ended up doing nothing aside from drive around and talk. Yet, those moments only strengthened our connection, which ultimately became an unexpected benefit in the image making process. I believe we had a total of seven sessions, though we may have only photographed on five of those. The final series consists of fourteen images, which you can view here, if you’re interested. While cleaning up my files recently, I came across a folder of alternate and unused images from the series. Some of them were too good not to share...
Several of these photographs are about to be printed and framed. Be on the lookout for a future Substack that contains the new pieces!
So feminine and ethereal. Your work is always a treat!
