I wasn’t sure how to release this series as it’s unlike anything I’ve created before. Each piece is entirely unique—not digital files, not even traditional prints. They’re hybrid works, a fusion of multiple mediums, each handmade. Because of that, they take time—some have come together in a day or two, others have taken a week. There are imperfections, of course, and moments where my perfectionism (annoyingly so) makes its presence known. Considering the labor involved and the fact that the series isn’t fully complete as I write this second newsletter, I’ve decided to release the works gradually, across multiple newsletters. The next newsletter will contain the full series of seven pieces.
Below, you’ll find the second two artworks in the series, each paired with an excerpt from Marguerite Duras' 1959 film Hiroshima Mon Amour. To view the first two, click here. Each artwork, and the series as a whole, is woven around a longer passage from the film which will be shared in its entirety at the end of these initial releases.
”How could I know this city was tailor-made for love?
How could I know you fit my body like a glove?”
“I like you.
How unlikely.
I like you.
How slow all of a sudden.
How sweet.
You cannot know.”
I am particularly fond of the light in the second one! Very, very nice!
