If you read the previous Substack on Nicola Samori, I touched on the growing popularity of the baroque style of painting in the last few years. “Baroque art is characterized by great drama, rich, deep color, and intense light and dark shadows. This art was meant to evoke emotion and passion instead of the calm rationality that had been prized during the Renaissance. The term "Baroque" was initially used with a derogatory meaning, to underline the excesses of its emphasis. In particular, the term was used to describe its eccentric redundancy and noisy abundance of details, which sharply contrasted the clear and sober rationality of the Renaissance.” In these modern times, more and more classically trained painters, or simply wonderfully talented self taught painters, are emerging and are rapidly gaining attention and notoriety. While Samori may be one of the more recognized painters using a similar style in the modern era, he only brushes up against the genre (if I am able call it that). Below, you’ll find five other (all fairly young, and living) painters emerging on the scene creating in the baroque style I adore so dearly.
